They say you should write about what you know. It’s true, it’s easy to write about what you know because it flows, it’s right there in your mind and the more you write, the more it comes to you. Or does it? It is not like that for me because when I’m not interested I won’t put the effort in. And that’s a fact, I get bored and abandon the draft very soon.

Instead, I think that if you write about what you love you can tap into an unlimited amount of creativity because it is fuelled by your passion. If what you know is what you love, then it’s magical! But for a lot of us, it is not always the case. For me, it’s clear that I want to write about what I love and that way, the research, and the writing are a lot easier than if I try to write about something familiar but that doesn’t necessarily interest me.

I love that feeling when you can’t write fast enough to put on the page all the ideas that you get about a story. Feeling the ideas pouring out is the best part of writing, for me, because I can write without worrying about punctuation, vocabulary, typos, and the like. I just focus on getting the story out of my head and exploring all the different ways it can develop. I have to say that in general, I know where the story is going, but many times I don’t have any idea and it’s fun! I just grab the characters and let the story flow. Many times, it becomes really crazy and I end up not using much of it. But the experience of hitting the ground running and writing without second guessing is worth it. I am usually the type of writer that will go three hundred times to the internet to check up stuff or look for images in Pinterest to help me imagine what the universe in my story will look like, and so on. So, when I get those bursts of writing frenzy I thoroughly enjoy them. Then, it’s time to reread, go back and see what will be used and start editing.

So, in conclusion, I would say write about what you love because passion and creativity are extremely powerful together. Sure, sometimes you will have to do some of the stuff you don’t like much, whatever part is that for you, but the more passionate you feel about your story, writing, characters, etc., it will make the experience that much more amazing for you, and hence, for your readers.
