I have already written about challenges and how I think they are a great way to discover things about yourself. I just read about a poet, Mary Barbara Moore, in the Washington Post and how one of her characters took life during a challenge 30/30: write a poem a day for a month. Also, during that challenge she says she got “the framework for another collection” of poems. I think it’s amazing what can happen during a challenge like that, but I have never really experienced it. Have you?
If I’m being honest, I feel a little intimidated sometimes to start these types of challenges because I don’t know if I will be able to keep it up. Also, why does it have to be 30? what’s up with the number 30? Can it be 10 days? why not? All these questions to say that I will challenge myself to write everyday but I will start small. I will write everyday for 7 days. I don’t know why I chose 7 –maybe because it’s my friend’s lucky number? That way, if it is a real lucky/magical number it will pass some of it to me. At the end of my challenge I will report back to you. I do write almost every day now, so for the challenge what I should add is that I will write FICTION every day for 7 days.
As I see it, four things can happen:
- I don’t do it. Oh well, another one that goes in the list of not done…
- I do it for some days of the 7 days and we’ll see what it looks like.
- I do it and after 7 days I stop and report back the results.
- I do it and love it so I decide to continue 7 more days… or give in to the mystical 30 and go for a whole month.
If you are considering starting a writing challenge, good luck! and I’ll see you on May 12. Sharpen your pens!

Love 7!!!! ππππ
