Two days ago I finished writing over 50K words in my draft. It’s feels exhilarating! I am so happy that I was able to conquer such big goal. It’s the first time in my life that I write consistently for a whole month and towards a novel! Of course, it’s a first draft only and there’s a lot of work to be done still. Just the fact that I could finish this challenge fills me with positive energy and I am excited to start editing my story and publish it.

Also, this month taught me that I can do it. I can sit in front of my computer every day and write. That is amazing! Sometimes you want to do something but you are not sure if it is right for you. This gives me another confirmation that not only I love writing but also I am able to come through. The team at NaNoWriMo is amazing and without the wordsprints in Twitter, I wouldn’t have been able to do it. Knowing that a group of writers are committed to work for 15, 20 or 30 minutes and you are not alone is a big incentive to get it done. Who knew?

Of course, my draft needs a lot of work and I am so excited to start the next steps. The most difficult part of writing without stopping was to choose names for characters and places as I was going. I can easily spend hours thinking about a name for a place in planet X, and what it would look like, and how to describe the most relevant aspects, etc. The details are important but when you have a story in your head you need to write it down and the names and details will come in the second or third draft. I find this a very valuable lesson especially for a very easily distracted writer like me.
